Pediatric Orthodontics
Pediatric Orthodontic treatment phases—starting early, growing naturally, and keeping things fun
For some children, we recommend a two-phase orthodontic approach rather than waiting until all permanent teeth have erupted to begin treatment.
Phase I, or early intervention, typically begins between ages 7–9 and focuses on addressing specific early concerns — such as a narrow upper jaw, underbite, crowding or lack of space for incoming adult teeth, or habits like thumb sucking. Certain orthopedic issues are most predictably and effectively treated while a child is still growing, when we can gently guide jaw development.
Phase II, or comprehensive treatment, takes place once all permanent teeth have come in. At this stage, we refine alignment and bite to achieve a balanced, healthy smile.
This approach allows us to intervene early when needed, prevent problems from becoming more complex, and take full advantage of a child’s natural growth. The goal is long-term stability, optimal function, and a smooth, comfortable experience every step of the way.
